YTT FAQs

Can I take yoga teacher training if I don’t plan on teaching?

Absolutely! There are so many reasons to take YTT if you don’t want to teach! To enhance your personal practice, to learn more about the history and philosophy of yoga, to learn something new, meet new people, and honestly, just because you love yoga!

Can I take YTT if my practice isn’t perfect?

No one has a perfect practice. In fact, there’s no such thing as a perfect practice, that’s why it’s a practice! YTT is open to all bodies and abilities. Whether you’ve been doing yoga your whole life, or just a few days, you are welcome here!

How are the 200 hours made up??

100 in class hours

30 hours of yoga practice

30 hours of homework

20 hours of class prep, virtual teaching, and karma class teaching

10 hours of reading

and 10 hours of other special events.

*The hours are made up in a very similar way for the virtual training but, the 100hrs in person are done through online videos and zoom meetings.

Is the training affiliated with the Yoga Alliance?

After much research, reading, and careful consideration we decided not have our teacher training associated with the yoga alliance. Why? Well there are many reasons actually. For starters we don’t find that the curriculum outlined by the alliance covers enough ground. The GoYoga program has everything outlined and required by the alliance and much more!

Also, there is no overseeing authority, or industry standard for yoga teachers. The Yoga Alliance is not required for you to be a qualified yoga instructor, and taking a course from a “registered yoga school” won’t necessarily make you a good yoga teacher. The alliance lays out a specific set of requirements (and hefty fees) for you to become a member, but as long as you pay your annual dues, no one comes to check up on you, or bother to see if you are teaching the requirements that you said you would. To us, it doesn’t seem like a seem like a worthy organization to govern yoga teachers. I guarantee that some of your favourite yoga teachers are not “RYT”s, and don’t worry about it one bit.

Do I need to purchase any reading materials?

Nope! Everything you need is included in the price! You will receive the GOYoga teacher training manual, a copy of Yoga Anatomy by Leslie Kaminoff and Amy Matthews, and a journal! You will also receive a special yoga teacher starter kit!

Is there a payment plan?

YES! There is an initial deposit of $500 +HST required to hold your registration. After that, a payment of $500+HST per month until the $2500+HST balance is covered. If this doesn’t work for you, let us know! We are happy to work with you on a plan to suit your needs
